Present Value Calculator
Calculate the present value of a future amount using a discount rate and number of periods locally in your browser.
This private browser estimate uses the standard present value formula with a constant discount rate. It does not account for fees, taxes, inflation, or changing rates. Currency is shown in dollars.
Find what a future amount is worth today.
Enter a future value, discount rate per period, and number of periods. The calculator uses the standard present value formula: PV = FV ÷ (1 + r)^n, where r is the discount rate as a decimal and n is the number of periods. This private browser estimate assumes a constant discount rate and does not account for fees, taxes, inflation, or changing rates. It is not financial, investment, or tax advice; your values are not uploaded or stored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
What is present value?
Present value (PV) is what a future amount of money is worth today, given a discount rate. It answers: how much would I need to invest now at this rate to have the future amount after the given periods?
What formula does the present value calculator use?
PV = FV ÷ (1 + r)^n, where FV is the future value, r is the discount rate per period as a decimal, and n is the number of periods. For example, $10,000 in 10 years at a 5% discount rate has a present value of $10,000 ÷ (1.05)^10 ≈ $6,139.13.
Which inputs are accepted?
Enter a future value of zero or more, a discount rate greater than -100%, and a whole number of periods (zero or more). Decimal values are accepted for the future value and rate. The calculator shows a clear error for invalid inputs.
Do my values stay private, and is this financial advice?
Yes. The calculation and copy action run locally in your browser. CodeASystem does not upload or store the values you enter. This is a general estimate, not financial, investment, or tax advice.
