Financial Calculators
APY Calculator
Convert between nominal interest rate and APY (Annual Percentage Yield) for any compounding frequency locally in your browser.
See the effective annual yield from a nominal rate.
Choose whether to calculate APY from a nominal rate or the nominal rate from an APY, then select the compounding frequency. APY = (1 + r/n)^n − 1 for periodic compounding, or APY = e^r − 1 for continuous compounding, where r is the nominal rate as a decimal and n is periods per year. The calculator runs entirely in your browser; your values are not uploaded or stored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
What is the difference between nominal rate and APY?
The nominal rate is the stated annual interest rate before compounding. APY (Annual Percentage Yield) is the effective rate after compounding over a full year. APY is always equal to or higher than the nominal rate when compounding occurs more than once per year.
How does the APY calculator work?
Choose whether to calculate APY from a nominal rate or the nominal rate from an APY, then select the compounding frequency. For periodic compounding, APY = (1 + r/n)^n - 1 where r is the nominal rate as a decimal and n is periods per year. For continuous compounding, APY = e^r - 1.
Which compounding frequencies are supported?
Annually, semiannually, quarterly, monthly, every two weeks, weekly, daily, and continuous compounding are available. Continuous compounding uses the mathematical constant e for the theoretical limit of infinite compounding periods.
Do my values stay private, and is this financial advice?
Yes. The calculation and copy action run locally in your browser, and CodeASystem does not upload or store the values you enter. This is a general estimate, not financial advice.
