Estimate how inflation affects the value of money over time.

Enter a starting amount, an average annual inflation rate, and the number of years. The calculator shows the future equivalent amount, the purchasing power of that starting amount today, and the cumulative inflation percentage. The formula uses compound growth: future amount = starting amount × (1 + rate)^years. This private browser estimate assumes a constant inflation rate and does not account for varying rates, fees, taxes, or investment returns; your values are not uploaded or stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

What formula does the inflation calculator use?

It uses the compound growth formula: future amount = starting amount × (1 + rate)^years. Purchasing power of the starting amount today = starting amount ÷ (1 + rate)^years. Cumulative inflation = ((1 + rate)^years − 1) × 100%.

How is this different from a present value or future value calculator?

This calculator is specifically for inflation adjustments. It shows the future equivalent (what goods costing the starting amount today would cost in the future), the purchasing power (what the starting amount would buy in the future in today's dollars), and cumulative inflation. A future value calculator typically models investment growth at a return rate, while a present value calculator discounts future cash flows.

Which inputs are accepted?

Enter a starting amount of zero or more, an annual inflation rate from 0% through 100%, and a number of years of zero or more. Decimal values are accepted, and displayed amounts are rounded to two decimal places.

Do my values stay private, and is this financial advice?

Yes. The calculation and copy action run locally in your browser, and CodeASystem does not upload or store the values you enter. This is a general estimate, not financial, investment, or tax advice.
