Calculators

Flooring Calculator

Estimate floor planks and boxes to buy from room size, plank size, and waste allowance locally in your browser.

Enter the room size and a single flooring plank size in feet to estimate how many planks to buy, including a waste allowance for cuts, breakage, and uneven edges. The calculation runs locally in your browser; your values are not uploaded or stored.

Your flooring estimate will appear here.

Enter plank dimensions in the same unit as the room; for example, a 48 by 6 inch plank is about 4 by 0.5 ft. Check your supplier because plank sizes and box counts vary by product. This flooring estimate is a planning guide, not a purchase guarantee.

Find how many flooring planks to buy without uploading anything.

Enter the room length and width plus a single flooring plank length and width, an optional planks-per-box count, and a waste allowance to see the room area, plank count, and rounded-up box count. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your values are not uploaded or stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

What does the flooring calculator show?

Enter the room length and width, a single flooring plank length and width in the same unit, an optional planks-per-box count, and a waste allowance. The calculator returns the room area, the plank area, and the plank count with waste rounded up, plus the box count when planks per box is given, with the calculation shown. For example, a 12 by 10 ft room with 4 by 0.5 ft planks and 10% waste needs about 66 planks, so buy 7 boxes at 10 planks per box.

Which formula does the flooring calculator use?

It uses room area = room length x room width, plank area = plank length x plank width, then planks = room area / plank area x (1 + waste percent / 100) rounded up, and boxes = planks / planks per box rounded up. Use the same length unit for the room and the plank; for example, a 48 by 6 inch plank is about 4 by 0.5 ft.

Which inputs are accepted?

Enter a room length, room width, plank length, and plank width greater than zero through 1000000000, an optional planks-per-box whole number from 1 to 1000000000, and a waste allowance from 0 to 100 percent (blank means 10). Decimal sizes are accepted. Zero sizes, negative numbers, non-numeric text, and values outside these limits show a clear error instead of a result.

Do my numbers stay private?

Yes. The calculation and copy action run locally in your browser. CodeASystem does not upload or store the values you enter.
