What does the tile calculator show?
Enter the floor length and width, a single tile length and width in the same unit, a waste allowance, and an optional tiles-per-box count. The calculator returns the floor area, the tile area, the tiles needed rounded up including waste, and the boxes needed when tiles per box is given. For example, a 12 ft by 10 ft floor with 1 ft by 1 ft tiles and 10% waste needs 132 tiles.
Which formulas does the tile calculator use?
It uses floor area = floor length x floor width, tile area = tile length x tile width, raw tiles = floor area / tile area, tiles needed = raw tiles x (1 + waste percent / 100) rounded up, and boxes needed = tiles needed / tiles per box rounded up. Use the same unit for the floor and tile sizes so the areas divide correctly.
Which inputs are accepted?
Enter a floor length, floor width, tile length, and tile width greater than zero through 1000000000 in feet or meters, a waste allowance from 0 to 100 percent (blank means 10), and an optional whole-number tiles-per-box count from 1 to 1000000000. Decimal sizes are accepted. Zero, negative numbers, non-numeric text, and values outside these limits show a clear error instead of a result.
