Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

What formula does the savings rate calculator use?

It uses savings rate = monthly savings / monthly take-home income x 100, monthly spending = monthly income - monthly savings, and annual savings = monthly savings x 12. For example, $1,000 saved from $5,000 income gives a 20% savings rate, $4,000 monthly spending, and $12,000 annual savings.

Should I use gross or take-home income?

Use monthly take-home income after taxes and deductions so the rate reflects money you can actually save or spend. Use the same period for income and savings.

Which inputs are accepted?

Enter a monthly take-home income greater than zero through 1000000000 and monthly savings from 0 through 1000000000. Monthly savings cannot exceed monthly income. Displayed amounts are rounded to two decimal places.

Do my values stay private, and is this financial advice?

Yes. The calculation and copy action run locally in your browser. CodeASystem does not upload or store the values you enter. This is a general planning estimate, not financial advice.
