Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
What is the return on investment formula?
ROI = (final value − initial cost) ÷ initial cost × 100. For example, if an initial cost of $1,000 has a final value of $1,250, the gain is $250 and ROI is 25%.
What do positive and negative ROI mean?
A positive ROI means the final value is above the initial cost, so the calculation shows a gain. A negative ROI means the final value is below the initial cost, so it shows a loss. A result of 0% means there is no gain or loss using these two values.
What does this ROI calculator not include?
This simple calculation does not account for the timing of cash flows, investment duration, compounding, additional deposits or withdrawals, fees, taxes, inflation, or risk. Compare investments over time with more complete measures when needed; this is not financial, investment, or tax advice.
Do my values stay private?
