Financial Calculators
Debt Avalanche Calculator
Create a debt payoff plan using the avalanche method: pay minimums on all debts and attack the highest interest rate first.
See your path to debt-free with the avalanche method.
Enter each debt with its name, balance, interest rate, and minimum payment. The calculator orders debts by interest rate (highest first), rolls each minimum payment into the next debt as they are paid off, and shows the payoff timeline and total interest. Add an optional extra monthly payment to accelerate the plan. This private browser estimate is for general planning only, not financial advice; your values are not uploaded or stored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
What is the debt avalanche method?
The debt avalanche method orders debts by interest rate from highest to lowest. You pay the minimum on all debts and put any extra money toward the debt with the highest rate. When that debt is paid off, you roll its payment into the next highest-rate debt, minimizing total interest paid.
How does the calculator handle the extra payment?
The extra monthly payment is applied to the first (highest-rate) debt. As each debt is paid off, its minimum payment is added to the payment for the next debt, along with the original extra amount.
Which inputs are accepted?
Enter at least one debt with a name, balance greater than zero, interest rate from 0% to 100%, and minimum payment greater than zero. The optional extra payment must be zero or greater.
Do my values stay private, and is this financial advice?
