Calculators
Sod Calculator
Estimate sod rolls and pallets to buy from lawn area, roll coverage, and waste allowance locally in your browser.
Enter the total lawn area in square feet to estimate how many sod rolls to buy, including roll coverage and a waste allowance for cutting, seams, and uneven edges. The calculation runs locally in your browser; your values are not uploaded or stored.
Buy estimate uses 10 sq ft per roll and a 450 sq ft pallet when coverage is left blank. Check your supplier because roll and pallet sizes vary by farm and grass type. This roll estimate is a planning guide, not a purchase guarantee.
Find how much sod to buy without uploading anything.
Enter the total lawn area in square feet or square meters, an optional coverage per roll, and a waste allowance to see the exact sod area needed and the rounded-up roll and pallet counts. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your values are not uploaded or stored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
What does the sod calculator show?
Enter the total lawn area, an optional coverage per roll, and a waste allowance. The calculator returns the exact sod area needed with the calculation shown, plus the roll count and pallet count rounded up to whole units. For example, 1000 sq ft with 10 sq ft per roll and 10% waste needs about 1100 sq ft of sod, so buy 110 rolls (about 3 pallets).
Which formula does the sod calculator use?
It uses total area = lawn area x (1 + waste percent / 100), then rolls = total area / coverage per roll rounded up, and pallets = total area / pallet coverage rounded up. Leaving coverage blank uses 10 sq ft per roll in imperial mode or 1 square meter per roll in metric mode, with a 450 sq ft (42 square meter) pallet.
Which inputs are accepted?
Enter a total lawn area greater than zero through 1000000000, an optional coverage per roll greater than zero through 1000000, and a waste allowance from 0 to 100 percent (blank means 10). Decimal areas and coverage values are accepted. Zero, negative numbers, non-numeric text, and values outside these limits show a clear error instead of a result.
Do my numbers stay private?
Yes. The calculation and copy action run locally in your browser. CodeASystem does not upload or store the values you enter.
