Range Calculator
Calculate the range (maximum minus minimum) of a dataset privately in your browser.
Find the spread between extremes.
Range = maximum − minimum. For 2, 4, 6, and 20, the range is 18. It is easy to compute but sensitive to outliers and does not describe distribution shape. A single value or identical values give a range of 0. Enter 1 to 10000 finite signed numbers separated by commas, semicolons, spaces or newlines. Scientific notation is supported; thousands separators are not. Use consistent units. Browser floating-point arithmetic displays up to 12 significant digits. All processing stays in your browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
How do I calculate the range?
Subtract the minimum value from the maximum value. For 2, 4, 6, and 20, range = 20 − 2 = 18.
Is range the same as midrange?
No. Range is the difference (max − min). Midrange is the midpoint ((max + min)/2). For 2, 4, 6, and 20, range is 18 and midrange is 11.
How do outliers affect range?
An extreme minimum or maximum strongly affects range. Interior values do not, so consider other measures when outliers are present.
Can I use negative numbers or just one value?
Yes. Enter 1 to 10000 finite signed numbers separated by spaces, commas, semicolons or newlines. A single value or identical values return a range of 0. Scientific notation is supported; use decimal points without thousands separators.
Is the data uploaded?
No. Calculations run locally in your browser and results display up to 12 significant digits.
