Midrange Calculator

Calculate the midpoint between the minimum and maximum of signed numbers privately in your browser.

Calculate the midrange: the midpoint between your smallest and largest values. Your data stays in your browser.

Separate 1 to 10000 finite signed numbers with newlines, commas, semicolons, or spaces. Use decimal points without thousands separators. Scientific notation is supported.

Your midrange will appear here.

Find the midpoint of the two extremes.

Midrange = (minimum + maximum) / 2. For 2, 4, 6, and 20, the minimum is 2, the maximum is 20, and the midrange is 11. Only the extremes affect this measure, making it sensitive to outliers. It differs from the arithmetic mean (8 in this example) and median (5). A single value or identical values return that same value. Enter 1 to 10000 finite signed numbers separated by commas, semicolons, spaces or newlines. Scientific notation is supported; thousands separators are not. Use consistent units; the midrange retains those units. Browser floating-point arithmetic displays up to 12 significant digits and may round very small differences or extreme values. All processing stays in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

How do I calculate midrange?

Add the minimum and maximum values and divide by two. For 2, 4, 6, and 20, midrange = (2 + 20) / 2 = 11.

Is midrange the same as mean or median?

No. Midrange uses only the minimum and maximum. The arithmetic mean uses every value, while the median uses the middle sorted values. For 2, 4, 6, and 20, these are 11, 8, and 5 respectively.

How do outliers affect midrange?

An extreme minimum or maximum can strongly change the midrange. Interior values do not affect it, so use other measures when you need a summary resistant to outliers.

Can I use negative numbers or just one value?

Yes. Enter 1 to 10000 finite signed numbers separated by spaces, commas, semicolons or newlines. A single value returns itself. Scientific notation is supported; use decimal points without thousands separators.

What precision and privacy does this tool provide?

Calculations run locally without uploading your data. Results retain the input units and display up to 12 significant digits using browser floating-point arithmetic, with rounding at extreme magnitudes.
