Calculators

Projectile Motion Calculator

Solve for projectile range, maximum height, time of flight, or launch velocity locally in your browser.

Choose what to solve for, then enter the launch velocity with the launch angle, or the range with the launch angle, using consistent units (for example, metres per second with degrees for metres). The calculator uses standard gravity of 9.81 and ignores air resistance. Calculations run locally in your browser; your values are not uploaded or stored.

Your projectile motion result will appear here.

Solve ideal projectile motion without uploading your values.

Enter the launch velocity with the launch angle to calculate range, maximum height, or time of flight, or enter the range with the launch angle to calculate launch velocity, using consistent units, such as metres per second with degrees for metres. The calculator uses standard gravity of 9.81 and shows the matching result locally without being uploaded or stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

Which formulas does the projectile motion calculator use?

It uses range = velocity² × sin(2 × angle) ÷ gravity, maximum height = velocity² × sin²(angle) ÷ (2 × gravity), time of flight = 2 × velocity × sin(angle) ÷ gravity, and velocity = √(range × gravity ÷ sin(2 × angle)), with standard gravity of 9.81. For example, a launch velocity of 20 at a 30 degree angle gives a range of about 35.31 and a maximum height of about 5.1 in matching length units.

Which units should I use?

Use velocity units consistent with gravity, such as metres per second with degrees for metres, or feet per second with degrees for feet. The answer is reported in the matching combined length, time, or velocity unit.

Which inputs are accepted?

Enter values of zero or greater up to 1,000,000,000,000 and an angle between 0 and 90 degrees. The angle must be greater than 0 and less than 90 degrees when solving for launch velocity. Missing or non-numeric entries show a clear error instead of a result.

Does this calculator include air resistance?

No. It models ideal projectile motion with constant gravity and no air resistance, so real-world results with drag will differ.

Do my values stay private?

Yes. The calculation and copy action run locally in your browser. CodeASystem does not upload or store the values you enter.
