Parallelogram Prism Calculator

Calculate right parallelogram prism volume, base area, and lateral and total surface areas from adjacent sides, included angle, and height.

This models a right prism with a parallelogram base. Enter adjacent base sides and perpendicular prism height in the same unit, from 1e-50 to 1e50. Enter the included base angle in degrees, from 0.000001 to 179.999999. Total surface area includes both parallelogram ends. All calculations stay in your browser.

Measure a right prism with a parallelogram base.

Enter adjacent parallelogram sides a and b, their included angle θ in degrees, and perpendicular prism height h. Base area B = ab sin(θ), perimeter P = 2(a + b), volume V = Bh, lateral surface area = Ph, and total surface area = Ph + 2B. For a = 6, b = 8, θ = 60° and h = 10, base area is approximately 41.5692193817 square units, volume is 415.692193817 cubic units, and total surface area is 363.138438763 square units. A 90° base angle gives a rectangular prism; equal sides give a rhombic prism. Supplementary angles give the same area. Height is perpendicular to the bases, not a slanted edge. Surface areas apply to right prisms only. Use consistent length units from 1e-50 to 1e50 and an angle from 0.000001 to 179.999999 degrees. Scientific notation is accepted; results use browser floating-point arithmetic rounded to 12 significant digits. All inputs stay in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

What is an example calculation?

Base sides 6 and 8, included angle 60 degrees, and prism height 10 give base area about 41.5692193817 square units, volume 415.692193817 cubic units, and total surface area 363.138438763 square units. Use the same length unit for every dimension.

Which angle should I enter?

Enter the interior angle between the two adjacent base sides in degrees. Either supplementary interior angle gives the same base area. The accepted range excludes degenerate flat bases.

How are volume and surface area calculated?

Base area B = ab sin(θ) and base perimeter P = 2(a + b). Volume = Bh, lateral area = Ph, and total area = Ph + 2B. Convert degrees to radians when evaluating the sine.

Does this calculate oblique prisms?

No. Enter the perpendicular height of a right prism. Its side faces are rectangles. Oblique prism surface area requires additional measurements.

Do the inputs leave my device?

No. Calculations run locally in your browser, with copy and reset controls.
