Rhombic Prism Calculator

Calculate right rhombic prism volume, base area, side length, and lateral and total surface areas from base diagonals and height.

This models a right prism with a rhombus base. Enter its two perpendicular base diagonals and the prism height in the same unit, from 1e-50 to 1e50. Height is perpendicular to the base, not a slanted edge. Total surface area includes both rhombus ends. All calculations stay in your browser.

Measure a right prism with a rhombus base.

A right rhombic prism has two matching rhombus bases and rectangular side faces. Enter the perpendicular rhombus diagonals d₁ and d₂ and perpendicular prism height h in the same unit. Base area B = d₁d₂/2. Base side s = √((d₁/2)² + (d₂/2)²), and perimeter P = 4s. Volume = Bh, lateral surface area = Ph, and total surface area = Ph + 2B. For diagonals 6 and 8 and height 10, the base area is 24 square units, side length is 5 units, volume is 240 cubic units, and total surface area is 248 square units. Equal diagonals give a square base. These surface area formulas require a right prism; they do not describe an oblique prism. Use positive lengths from 1e-50 to 1e50. Scientific notation is accepted; results use browser floating-point arithmetic rounded to 12 significant digits. Inputs stay in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

What measurements should I enter?

Enter the two diagonals of the rhombus base and the perpendicular distance between the bases. All three lengths must use the same unit.

How are volume and surface area calculated?

Base area B = d₁d₂/2, side s = √((d₁/2)² + (d₂/2)²), and perimeter P = 4s. Volume = Bh, lateral area = Ph, and total area = Ph + 2B.

Does this work for oblique prisms?

No. Surface area assumes a right prism with rectangular side faces. Its height is perpendicular to the base.

Can the diagonals be equal?

Yes. Equal diagonals give a square base. Both diagonals and height must be positive, from 1e-50 to 1e50.

What is an example?

Diagonals 6 and 8 with height 10 give base area 24, side length 5, volume 240, and total surface area 248 in the corresponding units.

Are my measurements uploaded?
