Padovan Number Calculator

Calculate exact Padovan numbers for indices 0 to 1000 privately in your browser, with the next term and digit count.

Calculate a term in the Padovan sequence and the following term. Exact BigInt arithmetic keeps every digit. Your data stays in your browser.

Enter a whole number from 0 to 1000 using digits only. Index zero returns 1. The sequence starts 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4.

Your Padovan number will appear here.

Calculate exact terms in the Padovan sequence.

This calculator uses P(0) = P(1) = P(2) = 1. Each later term adds the terms two and three positions earlier: P(n) = P(n − 2) + P(n − 3). The sequence begins 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12. For example, P(10) = P(8) + P(7) = 7 + 5 = 12. Unlike Tribonacci numbers, the immediately preceding term is not included in the sum. Some references use different starting values or indices, so check conventions before comparing results. Enter an index from 0 to 1000 using one to four digits; leading zeros and surrounding whitespace are accepted. Signs, decimals, separators and scientific notation are rejected. Exact BigInt addition preserves every digit. Results include the selected term, its decimal digit count and the next term. All calculations stay in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

Which starting values does this calculator use?

P(0) = P(1) = P(2) = 1. The next terms are 2, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Other indexing conventions may give different results for the same index.

How are Padovan numbers calculated?

For n greater than or equal to 3, add the terms two and three positions earlier: P(n) = P(n − 2) + P(n − 3). For example, P(10) = 7 + 5 = 12. The immediately preceding term is not part of this sum.

Are large results exact?

Yes. BigInt addition preserves every digit without rounding. Results include the selected term, the next term and the decimal digit count.

Which inputs are supported?

Enter an index from 0 to 1000 using one to four digits. Leading zeros and surrounding whitespace are accepted; signs, decimals, separators and scientific notation are rejected. Your inputs stay in your browser.
