Mode Calculator

Find the most frequent numbers in a dataset, including multiple modes and frequency counts, privately in your browser.

Find the most frequent number or all equally frequent modes in your dataset. Your data stays in your browser.

Separate 1 to 10000 finite signed numbers with newlines, commas, semicolons, or spaces. Use decimal points without thousands separators. Scientific notation is supported.

Your mode will appear here.

How to find the mode of a dataset

Count how often each number occurs. Every number tied for the highest frequency is a mode when that frequency is at least two. For 2, 4, 4, 6, 6, 20, the modes are 4 and 6, each occurring twice. This calculator reports no mode when every number occurs once, including a single-value dataset. Some conventions instead call all values modes in that case. If all values are identical and repeated, that value is the only mode. Unlike the mean or median, the mode describes frequency rather than a numerical center. Enter 1 to 10000 finite signed numbers separated by commas, semicolons, spaces or newlines. Scientific notation is accepted; thousands separators are not. Equivalent numeric forms such as 1 and 1.0 count together. Comparison uses browser floating-point numbers, so values beyond browser precision can merge. Results use the browser numeric representation without additional rounding. All processing stays in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

How do I find the mode?

Count the occurrences of each number. The most frequent repeated number is the mode. For 1, 2, 2, 3, the mode is 2 with frequency 2.

Can a dataset have multiple modes?

Yes. All numbers tied for the highest frequency are reported in ascending order. For 2, 4, 4, 6, 6, 20, both 4 and 6 are modes.

When does this calculator report no mode?

When no number repeats, including for a single observation. Some definitions call every value a mode in this situation; this tool uses the no-mode convention. Repeated identical values have one mode.

How are equivalent decimals and negative numbers handled?

Signed numbers and scientific notation are accepted. Equivalent numeric values such as 1, 1.0 and 1e0 count together. Browser floating-point precision may merge extremely close or very large values.

What input and privacy limits apply?

Enter up to 10000 finite numbers separated by spaces, commas, semicolons or newlines. Do not use thousands separators. Results use the browser numeric representation, and no data is uploaded.
