Which fuel efficiency units can I convert?
Enter a fuel efficiency value in liters per 100 km, kilometers per liter, US miles per gallon, or UK miles per gallon. The converter returns the equivalent value in all four units using km/L = 100 ÷ (L/100 km), US MPG = 235.2145833 ÷ (L/100 km), and UK MPG = 282.4809363 ÷ (L/100 km).
What is the difference between US MPG and UK MPG?
US miles per gallon use the US gallon (3.785411784 liters) while UK miles per gallon use the imperial gallon (4.54609 liters). Because the imperial gallon is larger, the same fuel efficiency reads about 20% higher in UK MPG than in US MPG.
Why must the value be greater than zero?
The conversion divides by the entered value, so zero would require division by zero and negative efficiencies have no physical meaning. The converter shows an error for zero, negative, or invalid values instead of returning a misleading result. Decimal values greater than zero are accepted.
