Weighted Geometric Mean Calculator
Calculate a weighted geometric mean from positive values and non-negative weights, privately in your browser.
Combine positive values using relative weights.
The weighted geometric mean is exp(Σ(w × ln(x)) / Σw). For values 2 and 8 with equal weights, the result is 4. With weights 1 and 3, the result is approximately 5.65685424949. Multiplying all weights by the same positive constant leaves the mean unchanged. Equal weights give the ordinary geometric mean. Values must be strictly positive; weights may be zero, but at least one weight must be positive. Zero-weight rows are ignored when determining the result and its minimum and maximum. Enter one value and weight pair per line, up to 10000 pairs. Within a line use commas, semicolons or spaces; omit thousands separators. Scientific notation is supported. Use consistent units; the result retains the values’ units. Logarithms and normalized weights reduce overflow risk. Browser floating-point results display 12 significant digits; extremely small relative weights may round to zero. All calculations stay in your browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
How is the weighted geometric mean calculated?
Multiply each natural logarithm of a positive value by its weight, divide their sum by the total weight, then exponentiate. Equal weights on 2 and 8 give 4.
Do the weights need to sum to one?
No. Counts, percentages and other non-negative relative weights work. Scaling all weights by the same positive factor does not change the answer.
Can I use zeros or negative values?
Values must be strictly positive. Weights must be non-negative with at least one positive weight. Zero-weight pairs do not affect the result.
How precise is the result?
Results display up to 12 significant digits using browser floating-point arithmetic. Normalized weights and logarithms reduce overflow, but tiny relative weights can round to zero. Data stays in your browser.
