Series and Parallel Capacitor Calculator

Calculate equivalent capacitance for ideal capacitors connected entirely in series or entirely in parallel, privately in your browser.

Enter 1–1000 positive capacitances in one unit, separated by commas, semicolons, spaces, or newlines. Use values from 1e-12 to 1e12. Changing the unit reinterprets the numbers.

Enter capacitances, select a connection, then calculate.

Combine capacitances in a series or parallel group.

For capacitors in parallel, equivalent capacitance is C = C₁ + C₂ + … + Cₙ. In series, 1/C = 1/C₁ + 1/C₂ + … + 1/Cₙ. For 10, 20, and 30 µF, parallel capacitance is 60 µF and series capacitance is approximately 5.45454545455 µF. Series capacitance is no greater than the smallest capacitor; parallel capacitance is no smaller than the largest. A single capacitor returns its own value. Enter 1 to 1000 positive values separated by spaces, commas, semicolons, or newlines, all in the selected unit. Each value must be from 1e-12 to 1e12 inclusive; scientific notation is accepted without unit suffixes or thousands separators. This models ideal capacitors in one simple series or parallel group, excluding mixed networks, tolerances, leakage, parasitic effects, and voltage ratings. Results use up to 12 significant digits. All calculations stay in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

How do series and parallel capacitance differ?

Parallel capacitances add directly. Series capacitance is the reciprocal of the sum of reciprocal capacitances. For 10, 20, and 30 µF, the totals are 60 µF in parallel and about 5.45454545455 µF in series.

Can I mix units in the input?

No. Convert every value to the same unit first, then select that unit. Supported units are F, mF, µF, nF, and pF. Changing the unit reinterprets the entered numbers; it does not convert them.

Does this calculate a mixed capacitor network or voltage rating?

No. This tool models one ideal series group or one ideal parallel group. It does not determine voltage ratings, charge balancing, tolerance, leakage, or parasitic effects.

What inputs can I enter?

Enter 1 to 1000 positive numbers from 1e-12 to 1e12 in the selected unit. Separate values with commas, semicolons, whitespace, or newlines. Scientific notation is accepted. Calculations run locally and display up to 12 significant digits.
