Rectangular Pyramid Calculator
Calculate right rectangular pyramid volume, base area, lateral area, total surface area, and both slant heights privately in your browser.
Measure a right pyramid with a rectangular base.
For a right rectangular pyramid, the apex lies directly above the center of a rectangular base. Enter base length L, base width W, and perpendicular height h in the same unit. Base area B = LW and volume V = LWh/3. The slant height of faces with base edge L is sL = √(h² + (W/2)²); the other slant height is sW = √(h² + (L/2)²). Lateral area = LsL + WsW, and total surface area = LW + LsL + WsW. For L = 6, W = 4, h = 3, volume is 24 cubic units, base area is 24 square units, and total surface area is approximately 62.6038704013 square units. These formulas require a centered apex and do not describe oblique pyramids. Equal base dimensions give a square pyramid. Use positive lengths from 1e-50 to 1e50; scientific notation is accepted. Results use browser floating-point arithmetic rounded to 12 significant digits. Inputs remain in your browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
How do I find rectangular pyramid volume?
Multiply base length by base width by perpendicular height, then divide by 3. A 6 by 4 base with height 3 has volume 24 cubic units.
Why are there two slant heights?
Each pair of opposite faces can have a different altitude. Faces with base edge L have slant height √(h² + (W/2)²); faces with base edge W have slant height √(h² + (L/2)²).
Does this work for oblique pyramids?
No. The apex must be above the center of the rectangular base. For equal base dimensions this becomes a right square pyramid.
Which inputs and units are accepted?
Enter positive lengths from 1e-50 to 1e50 in one consistent unit. Scientific notation is accepted. Areas use squared units and volume uses cubed units. Results are rounded to 12 significant digits and calculations stay in your browser.
