Prime Factorization Calculator

Find the prime factorization of a whole number up to 1 trillion locally in your browser.

Enter a whole number from 0 to 1 trillion to see its prime factorization. The calculation runs locally in your browser; your value is not uploaded or stored.

Your prime factorization will appear here.

Break a number into its prime building blocks without uploading anything.

Enter a whole number from 0 to 1,000,000,000,000 to see its prime factorization, prime factors with multiplicities, and the count of distinct and total prime factors. Prime numbers are identified. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your value is not uploaded or stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

What is prime factorization?

Prime factorization expresses a whole number as a product of prime numbers. For example, 60 = 2² × 3 × 5. The prime factors are 2 (twice), 3 (once), and 5 (once). Every whole number greater than 1 has a unique prime factorization by the fundamental theorem of arithmetic.

How does this calculator work?

It uses trial division: first dividing by 2, then testing odd divisors up to the square root of the remaining value. Each factor and its multiplicity are recorded. When no divisor is found, the remaining value is prime and added to the factorization.

What results does the calculator show?

The calculator shows the prime factorization (e.g., 2² × 3 × 5), the list of prime factors with their powers, the total number of prime factors counting multiplicities, the number of distinct prime factors, and whether the input is a prime number.

Which inputs are accepted?

Enter a whole number from 0 to 1,000,000,000,000. Values 0 and 1 are reported as having no prime factors. Decimals, negative numbers, scientific notation, and values above the limit show a clear error.

Do my numbers stay private?

Yes. The factorization and copy action run locally in your browser. CodeASystem does not upload or store the value you enter.
