Integer Division Calculator
Calculate exact integer quotients and non-negative remainders with a verification equation, privately in your browser.
Divide an integer by a positive integer, each up to 100 digits. Results use Euclidean division: the remainder is always non-negative and smaller than the divisor. Calculations stay in your browser.
How quotient and remainder work
Euclidean division writes a = bq + r, where the divisor b is positive and the remainder satisfies 0 ≤ r < b. The quotient q is floor(a/b). For 17 divided by 5, q = 3 and r = 2. For −17 divided by 5, q = −4 and r = 3 because −17 = 5 × (−4) + 3. This differs from truncation toward zero for negative dividends. Exact divisions have remainder zero; dividing zero gives quotient and remainder zero. Enter integers of up to 100 digits, with an optional minus sign on the dividend only. The divisor must be at least 1. Surrounding whitespace and leading zeros are accepted; decimals, plus signs, separators and scientific notation are rejected. Exact browser BigInt arithmetic preserves all digits. No input is uploaded or stored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.
How do I find quotient and remainder?
Divide a by positive b using a = bq + r, with 0 ≤ r < b. For 17 divided by 5, the quotient is 3 and the remainder is 2.
How are negative dividends handled?
The quotient rounds down and the remainder stays non-negative. For −17 divided by 5, the quotient is −4 and the remainder is 3.
Can I divide by zero or a negative divisor?
No. The divisor must be a positive integer. The dividend can be negative, positive or zero. Both inputs accept up to 100 digits.
Are large integers exact and private?
Yes. Browser BigInt arithmetic preserves every digit, and inputs are not uploaded or stored.
