Fuel Cost Calculator

Estimate the fuel cost for a one-way trip using distance, efficiency, and fuel price.

This private browser estimate assumes a one-way trip, steady fuel efficiency, and a constant fuel price. Currency is shown in dollars.

Your fuel estimate will appear here.

Estimate a trip’s fuel use and cost before you leave.

Choose miles and MPG or kilometres and litres per 100 km, then enter your one-way distance, fuel efficiency, and price per gallon or litre. The calculator uses gallons = miles ÷ MPG or litres = kilometres × (L/100 km) ÷ 100, then multiplies fuel used by the price. This private browser estimate assumes steady efficiency and a constant fuel price; your values are not uploaded or stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

What formula does the fuel cost calculator use?

For miles and MPG, gallons used = trip miles ÷ MPG. For kilometres and litres per 100 km, litres used = kilometres × (litres per 100 km) ÷ 100. In either unit system, estimated fuel cost = fuel used × price per gallon or litre.

Which units should I use?

Choose miles and MPG when your vehicle efficiency is stated in miles per gallon and your fuel price is per gallon. Choose kilometres and litres per 100 km when your efficiency is stated in L/100 km and your price is per litre. Use one matching unit system for all three inputs.

What does this trip estimate assume?

It estimates a one-way trip with steady fuel efficiency and a constant fuel price. Traffic, weather, route elevation, idling, driving style, cargo, fuel grades, and price changes can make actual fuel use and cost different.

Do my distance, efficiency, and price stay private?

Yes. The calculation runs locally in your browser. CodeASystem does not upload or store the values you enter.
