Binary Bit Reversal Calculator

Reverse binary bit order while preserving word width and leading zeros, with exact unsigned decimal input and output values.

Reverse the order of 1 to 4096 binary digits. Leading zeros define the word width and are preserved when moved to the other end. Calculations stay in your browser.

Enter binary digits to reverse their order.

How binary bit reversal works

Bit reversal maps the first bit to the last position, the second bit to the next-to-last position, and so on across the entire entered word. For 1011, the reversed word is 1101: unsigned decimal 11 becomes 13. For 0011, the reversed word is 1100, so the four-bit width matters. Reversing the result again restores the original word. A single bit, an all-zero word, and a palindrome such as 1001 remain unchanged. This reverses individual bits across the whole word; it does not swap bytes or invert zeros and ones. Enter 1 to 4096 binary digits without a 0b prefix or internal spaces. Surrounding whitespace is accepted. Leading zeros count toward the width, and trailing zeros become leading zeros in the result. Decimal values use exact unsigned BigInt arithmetic without 32-bit truncation. All processing runs in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tool, how it works, and privacy.

How do I reverse binary bits?

Read the entered binary word from right to left. For example, 1011 becomes 1101, changing unsigned decimal 11 to 13.

Do leading zeros affect bit reversal?

Yes. They define the word width. Reversing 0011 gives 1100, whereas reversing 11 gives 11.

Is bit reversal the same as byte swapping?

No. This tool reverses every individual bit across the entire word. Byte swapping changes the order of groups of eight bits.

Does reversing bits invert their values?

No. Each zero stays zero and each one stays one; only their positions change. Reversing a word twice restores the original.

Are large binary words supported?

Yes. Enter up to 4096 binary digits. Decimal results are exact unsigned integers computed locally in your browser.
